Online Casino Sponsors Thelma and Louise Stunt
An online casino well-known for its over-the-top marketing stunts and eccentric purchases on eBay has recently added to its list of crazy stunts by submitting the winning bid in an internet auction to have it’s logo and website printed on a Dodge Neon as it is driven off a cliff in Joplin, Montana.
The stunt will take place on 29th April, when the car’s owner, Will Stuckenberg will send his wife’s car, driven by two blow-up dolls named Thelma and Louise, over the cliff, along with advertising from the online casino.
The dolls will be named Thelma and Louise in a reference to Ridley Scott’s 1991 film in which two women, Thelma (Geena Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon), on the run from the police drive their car over a cliff.
The online casino placed the winning bid of $2,550 to have it’s advertising printed on the car as it is plunged over the 150-foot cliff later this month. A spokesperson for the online casino was reported to have said that the online casino likes to be the first to do new things and the online casino is always looking for new and interesting marketing opportunities. Since this is the first time anyone has auctioned off space on their car before driving it off a cliff, the online casino was quick to get in on the auction, saying that the next person to try the same stunt will not get nearly as much attention as the first.
The Stuckenbergs replaced their car for a larger minivan when their third child was born, but Stuckenberg decided that rather than selling the car for its value of around $1,000, he came up with the idea to auction off the advertising space to the online casino on his wife’s car and then destroy it by driving it off the cliff.
The plan for the stunt, as described on the auction’s eBay website will begin with a victory lap around the area, followed by driving up to the crowd of “crash-crazed” spectators and press and news crews for photo opportunities and then Stuckenberg will position the Thelma and Louise dolls in the front seat, place a brick on the accelerator and send the car over the cliff. Stuckenberg dubbed the event “American History”, making the first car to be destroyed in the process of an advertising stunt.
The online casino is famous for its outrageous marketing stunts, and eccentric purchases has recently bought on eBay auction the bathtub James Earl Ray was standing in when he shot Martin Luther King Jr. for $7,600, actor William Shatner’s kidney stone for $25,000 and Grateful Dead star Jerry Garcia’s toilet.
The famed toilet was bought by the online casino for $2,550 but was recently stolen before the online casino could take possession. According to a press release, the online casino is offering a reward of $5,000 for the safe return of the toilet, which the online casino plans to take on tour to raise money for charity.
The online casino has paid for many quirky advertising spaces, including having its name tattooed on the foreheads of people, printed on pregnant bellies, and one baby was even named after the online casino after his parents put the naming rights up on eBay auction.
